JUST ANNOUNCED: Lunchtime Musical Performance

Holyrood is pleased to welcome service users from a range of local services to the conference. As members of Phoenix Future's Together Project, they  will be performing songs and dances from their
recent performance of Somewhere Under the Rainbow during the lunch break. A video clip previewing their musical performance is available below.

In May 2008, the Scottish Government published their drugs strategy, The Road to Recovery. Just over a year later, how is this strategy operating in practice? Have services improved? And how has the strategy responded to the economic crisis, stagnant funding and the emergence of new policies from the Scottish and UK governments?

This conference will be a unique opportunity for key professionals to come together to discuss these issues, to hear about best practice and to network with a range of delivery partners. Speakers will tackle vital challenges including funding the Road to Recovery, integrating service provision and improving collaboration in delivery, the operation of the new drug and alcohol partnerships, tackling the barriers to recovery and perceptions of drug misuse, employability and economic growth.

Speakers will highlight how key organisations, both inside and outside government, can work together to overcome intergenerational inequalities and the ongoing cycles of poverty and drug misuse. They will challenge delegates to think differently about the barriers to recovery such as providing adequate mental health treatment and improving the general health of drug misusers. This will include tackling issues like Hep C infections, poor nutrition and lifestyle as well as improvements which can be made on the continuity of treatment particularly for offenders.

Building on the success of last year’s event, Getting Unhooked: Tackling Scotland’s Drug Problem, this conference will host extended interactive debate opportunities for delegates with speakers. The conference will also be an opportunity for delegates to enhance their knowledge of current and upcoming policies, such as the incoming HEAT targets for drug treatment, the operation of the Drug Strategy Delivery Commission and the formation and operation of the Scottish Drugs Recovery Consortium.

Hearing directly from the Scottish and local government as well as local authority and voluntary sector delivery partners, you can’t afford to miss this conference.
